On the morning 22 March 2013, Kogo aka Princess finally passed away.
I wonder if other fish ever find out that one of their companions is missing. They came to feed as soon as I threw in the pellets, like nothing had happened.
On 17 March, Sven found Princess lying on her side at the edge of the pond, turned completely pale. He couldn't figure out who it was at first. She was probably only covered by a cm water or so. This happened when the temperature outside was minus degrees. So the temperature close to the water surface must have been close to zero degree. After Sven found her alive, he promptly moved her to a pail of water and gradually warmed it up.
I came home on the 19th. At this time the fish was swimming in a tank in the basement where the water slowly rose up to 7°C. Kogo slowly regained her colour. We thought she was recovering. However the reddened patches in her head and tails were worrying us somehow. She was still swimming like a healthy fish the day she passed away. The colour of her skin also became more intense. By looking at the progress from day to day we were so confident that she'd recover that we were already thinking of a way to transfer her back to the pond. I have no clue what we could have done better to help her recover.

The final measurement for Kogo:

My dear Kogo, please rest in peace. You'll always be remembered.
